No instruments - just a circle of bare-chested men chanting "cak-cak-cak" in hypnotic, interlocking rhythm as the story of the Ramayana unfolds: Rama, Sita, the demon king Rawana, and Hanoman the white monkey, who ends the show leaping through flames.
The open-air amphitheatre sits beside Uluwatu temple, 70 metres above the crashing surf. As the performance builds, the sky turns gold and the sun drops straight into the ocean behind the dancers - the reason this is the most famous Kecak in Bali.
