Munduk is best known for the string of jungle waterfalls hidden in its valleys, reached on trails that wind through forest and plantation. Melanting is one of the tallest, dropping a long way down a mossy cliff, and Golden Valley and Labuhan Kebo sit nearby along the same network of paths. We walk to one of the prettiest, where you can stand in the spray or take a dip in the pool below.
Munduk lies high in Bali's northern mountains, above the twin crater lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan. Cool air, quiet lanes, and valley views running down to the north coast make it feel a long way from the beach resorts of the south. The hills were planted with coffee, clove, and cacao in the colonial era, and those crops still shape the landscape you walk through on the way to the falls.
The paths to the falls are green and quiet, and the roads up are winding, so a stop here is also a chance to stretch and breathe the cool mountain air. Many people pair the waterfall walk with a small coffee, clove, and cacao tasting at one of the plantations along the way, which is pay-as-you-go with no pressure to buy. Bring a light layer, since the highlands stay noticeably cooler than the coast.
