Celuk has been Bali's centre for gold and silversmithing for generations, and much of the island's jewellery still comes from its family workshops. You can watch artisans hand-shape fine filigree and granulation at the bench, and some workshops let you sit down with raw silver and craft your own piece to take home. Browsing is welcome and buying is entirely optional.
Batik is made by drawing hot wax onto cloth with a pen-like canting tool, then dyeing around it so the waxed lines resist the colour, one layer at a time. At a local studio you'll see the process up close and can try the canting yourself to make a piece to take home. Relaxed, hands-on, and good for kids.
The village of Batuan gave its name to one of Bali's distinctive painting styles: dense, dark, finely detailed scenes of village life and mythology that took shape here in the 1930s. Meet local painters and see how a single canvas, filled almost corner to corner, can take weeks of close brushwork.
