Ubud's arts and traditions in one day - a morning Barong dance, silver and batik crafts, the carved Batuan temple, the royal palace, and the Kecak fire dance to close the night, with the traditional market as an optional stop.
We open in Batubulan, where the Barong and Keris dance is performed every morning. The Barong, a lion-like guardian, faces the demon queen Rangda, with a live gamelan orchestra and entranced kris dancers at the end.
Three craft stops in one run: the silver workshops of Celuk, a wax-and-dye batik studio, and the Batuan painting style. You watch the artisans work, can try it yourself, and buy straight from the makers.
An 11th-century village temple in Batuan, with every gate and shrine covered in carved paras stone. Cool, quiet and rarely crowded, and it sits right on the road between the craft villages and Ubud.
Puri Saren Agung, the home of Ubud's royal family, in the middle of town. The traditional market is straight across the road, which is where the handmade crafts, textiles and souvenirs are.
Pasar Ubud, across from the Royal Palace: produce and offering flowers in the morning, then textiles, woodcarving and souvenir stalls the rest of the day. Easy to fold in between stops if you want time to browse and bargain.
The day closes with the Kecak: a circle of dozens of chanting men, no instruments, retelling the Ramayana around a fire as the sun goes down.
Private car, driver and fuel. You pay entrance tickets at each gate as you go - handy if you like to skip a stop.
The whole day prepaid, with entrance tickets for the listed stops included. Nothing to pay at the gates.
We pick you up from your hotel or villa in the Ubud area at the time you choose. Your driver shares their details the day before.
Comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a hat, and some cash for entrance tickets (Standard) and lunch along the way.
Temples ask for a sarong, arranged at the gate. A few stops have stairs or a short walk. The route is flexible - linger or skip as you like.
Book and pay online by card or PayPal; a $10 deposit holds your date and you settle the rest at the end of the day. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
