Open since the late 1990s, Bali Zoo lays out shaded jungle paths past elephants, orangutans, sun bears, big cats, and hundreds of tropical animals in green, garden-like grounds. It is compact enough for a relaxed half-day but has enough to see that children tend not to want to leave.
Beyond the walk-through, there are optional add-ons such as animal feeding sessions, an elephant encounter, and breakfast alongside the orangutans. After dark the park runs a night safari, which shows a different side of the grounds as the nocturnal animals become active.
Paths are shady and mostly easy-going, with cafes and rest spots throughout, so it suits all ages. Allow around two to three hours for a day visit. Bali Bird Park is next door, so the two combine easily into a full wildlife day out from Ubud.
