Banyumala's draw is the pair of falls that drop together down a wide, moss-green rock face in the northern highlands. Fed by the mountains above, they spread into dozens of smaller ribbons after rain, framed by ferns and hanging jungle. It is a gentler waterfall than Bali's biggest, more of a garden than a thundering giant.
Reaching the falls means a walk down through the jungle on a series of steps and paths that wind past greenery and small streams. It is steep in a few places but short, and the effort keeps numbers down. You will often have the base almost to yourself, which is rare for a Bali waterfall this pretty. The climb back up is the harder part.
At the foot of the falls sits a wide, clear pool, one of the few in Bali calm and shallow enough to swim in comfortably. The water is cool and fresh straight off the mountain, with greenery all around. Bring a swimsuit and a change of clothes, plus good shoes for the trek down.
