One of the cleanest, most beautiful traditional villages in Bali - a preserved Bali Aga village in the cool Bangli highlands, on the way down from Kintamani.
A single, gently sloping main avenue runs the length of the village, lined with near-identical traditional gates and courtyard homes and kept spotless by the community. It's regularly named one of the cleanest villages in the world, and walking it feels like stepping into an older, calmer Bali.
Penglipuran is a Bali Aga (original Balinese) village that still follows its old customary law and layout. You can step into a family compound, see a traditional bamboo kitchen, and learn from locals how the community keeps its heritage - and its famous tidiness - alive.
Set in the cool Bangli highlands with a protected bamboo forest nearby, it's an easy, flat walk of about an hour. It sits right on the route down from a Mount Batur sunrise back toward Ubud, so it fits a Kintamani day perfectly.
