Tegal Wangi sits at the foot of the limestone cliffs a short drive from Jimbaran, reached by a steep path and some rough steps down from the parking area. The climb keeps numbers down, so even on a busy day the cove stays fairly quiet. Wear shoes with grip; the path is loose and can be slippery after rain.
At low tide, shallow pools fill in the dark volcanic rock along the shore, the "natural jacuzzi" people come for, where you can sit in calm water with the waves breaking just beyond. They only appear when the tide is out, so timing matters. When the tide is in, the pools disappear and the water reaches the base of the cliff.
The bay faces west between limestone headlands, which makes it a favourite for late-afternoon light and sunset. It is more a place to sit, wade, and take it in than a swimming beach, since the surf can push hard against the rocks. There is almost no natural shade, so bring sun cover and check the tide times before you go.
