The sunrise everyone comes to Bali for - without the two-hour climb in the dark. A 4x4 takes you up the volcano's black lava field to the viewpoint, and you watch the sun come up over the caldera with a coffee in hand.
We pick you up around 2:30 AM and drive north into the highlands. The jeep climbs onto the volcano itself, and you arrive in the dark. Then the sky starts to burn behind Mount Abang and Mount Agung, the clouds sit below you in the valley, and Lake Batur appears out of the black. It is genuinely one of the best sunrises in Indonesia.
This is the key difference from the trekking tour: you don't walk. The 4x4 drives across the hardened lava flow from the 1968 eruption and up to the viewpoint. It's perfect if you have kids, knee trouble, or simply no interest in hiking a volcano in the dark - you get the same sunrise, sitting down.
It is genuinely cold up there before dawn - around 10–15°C - so bring a jacket, long trousers, and closed shoes. Most people are surprised. After sunrise the jeep takes you across the lava field and down past the lake, and we can add a natural hot spring stop on the way home if you'd like to warm up.
