The swing is a modern Bali attraction: a harnessed seat that arcs out over the rice terraces near Ubud. It's built for photos as much as thrills, and the harness makes it less alarming than it looks.
Bali's jungle swings appeared around Ubud in the 2010s and spread quickly. You're strapped into a harness, seated on a wooden swing set at the top of the rice terrace, and then pushed. For a few seconds you arc out over the open fields, the green terraces dropping away below you. Each ride lasts about a minute, and people usually want to go straight back on.
Most sites offer several swings at different heights - a low, gentle one for a first go, and a high one that flings you well out over the terrace. There are usually bird's-nest platforms, hanging beds, and flower pods too, all set up for photos. Take the low swing first; you'll want the high one afterwards.
Every rider wears a full safety harness clipped to a separate line, so the swing is secure and staff are trained. Wear something that photographs well and won't fly up (long dresses are popular for a reason, but bring shorts underneath). Staff take photos on your phone for free and go slow if you ask, and transport from Ubud is included.
