The Twin Lakes - Buyan and Tamblingan - sit side by side in an old volcanic caldera, separated by a thin strip of jungle. From the viewpoint on the ridge above, you can take both in one frame, with forested slopes falling away toward the water.
It's best in the morning, before the highland mist rolls in and softens the view. Cool, quiet, and green, it's a beautiful first stop on the way into the north.
