The temple that seems to float on Lake Beratan, up in Bali's cool highlands.
Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is one of Bali's most iconic temples, its shrines seeming to float on the surface of Lake Beratan high in the central highlands. Dedicated to the goddess of the lake and water, it's the temple printed on Indonesia's 50,000 rupiah note - and up here the air is cool and the mist rolls in off the water.
The setting is the magic: mirror-still water, tiered meru shrines, and mountains ringing the lake. Come in the morning before the mist burns off and you'll get the kind of reflection photo you can't capture anywhere else on the island.
